After we put the bamboo in the stock tank it dramatically turned yellow (Laurrie says it was pulling its energy into root reformation), a few of the culms died, and then it greened up again. I hit it with fish emulsion last week and it responded by sending up new culms. We still had a bare section in the middle of the tank so Greg dug up the last of the in-ground bamboo and got it in the tank, after removing the dead stalks.
I've never known how two-gardener households landscape without killing each other. I *might* be able to do it if it involved more surprises like this. I think we need a second stock tank now, no?
Definitely a nice surprise! I have to admit, we went to Burns Feed this weekend to get another stock tank for our driveway...but I stupidly forgot to measure the one we have now (so we could get one that matched)...and once we got there, realized I couldn't quite figure out what size ours was...so we left without even getting one. Doh!
ReplyDeleteA great surprise, although I can see where two gardeners in one garden could go badly astray of each other's plans at times. Fortunately Jim leaves me to my own devices and does not touch, or even look at, what I plant. He'll help me, and adds muscle to my projects, but he never moves a thing without direction. You were lucky on the bamboo move!
ReplyDeleteOh no! That's such a long drive, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it to the open garden! Yay for a guy who isn't afraid to tackle a project...may there be many more in his/your future!
ReplyDeleteOh god...this is totally something I would do!
ReplyDeleteSometimes those boys really come in handy
ReplyDeleteLuckily, R & I view arguing as sport.
ReplyDeletePlus, you get to do make up planting afterward, right?
