Saturday was a big day. All this concrete . . .
The irony is not lost on me

Dusty, I like the idea of four because
1. It will give your plants access to more soil.
2. After a few years of mulching the surface and adding more compost, etc., it gives you more depth to work with (as the depth builds up).
3. It gives me a place to perch my rear at your next BBQ. -
I voted for three, but I can see advantages to both three and four.
If you go three:
* you need less soil to fill it inIf you go four:
* your plants' roots will have more roomEither way will be fine, though, so there's no tragedy to either option. I also have to give it up because DAMN! that is a lot of work for one weekend and quite impressive. Whatever you choose, you're going to have a really attractive garden bed that will be a lovely focal point for your yard. Well done!

Carrie, Mary, and me liked 3 better. Mary, junior master gardener in Boise (where it's harder to grow stuff) suggests things growing over the edges (I think they call it "trellising") to soften the edges and starkness compared to the rest of the yard.
Personally, I think it looks great and will fit in perfectly when things are growing.
