I like dogs more than I like dog owners

Overnight my Devon Skies blue-eyed grass went from looking like this:

To this:

I’m thinking dog urine is the culprit. Anyone have any other theories? I think it’s going to live but it looks UGLY right now.

The other day I was weeding in the front garden and a woman came by with her two dogs. One went into my hell strip and peed all over my Aristea inaequalis and she looked right at me and said, “Good boy.” People can be jerks.

Yes, I think there's a strong possibility dog pee is the reason it looks like that.

I am regularly aghast at the liberties dog owners allow their dogs in my front garden – even when I'm standing there! So what do you say to them? Sometimes I'm quick enough to say "Oh, please don't walk on the PLANTS, doggie!" That might be followed by a desultory effort to corral the pooch, but not always.

I'm about ready to install short, sharp sticks.

You should have punched her in the face

I'm too passive. I just glared at her retreating back.

I agree! I want something that hurts the owners, like something that subtly shocks them when they let their dog pee on a plant. Dogs don't know any better but people should!

I like just about anything more than most dog owners. What a jerk! I get a few dogs running loose in my neighborhood, and it galls me no end. But when the owner is right there encouraging the animal to invade your property. Aaaarrgghh!

I think I know who did it. We have a neighbor two doors down who lets their dog run loose. He's trained enough not to use their yard as a bathroom, instead he uses mine. Grrrr.

UGH…yes, I have a spot in my parking strip that is THE spot for neighborhood dogs. They killed the plants that were there last year…and even the grass I have there now is struggling (while the same plant, just a few feet away, is huge). That sad thing is, once one dog pees there…the rest have to pee there too šŸ™ I'm seriously considering ringing the area with bamboo skewers to deter them.

The worst is when they walk off-leash and the dog sees Boots or another cat in our garden and TEARS off through the garden after them. The owners always laugh and say something like "Oh, Killer just wants to play with him!". I always want to say, "Funny, my fist wants to play with your face." Instead, I smile through gritted teeth and get TMJ. Maybe I can send them a bill for a new mouth-guard?

Hey, I do know some nice and responsible dog owners. As for the others, hanging's too good for them.

This is why I have no food growing in the front. This is also why I don't want a male dog.

I'm so worried about that! I'll probably have to move it to give it a chance to recover. That's so horrible that people let their dogs run through your garden! Ugh, people are the worst.

You're right, there are some excellent dog owners! But man, those crappy ones are trying really hard to besmirch their good name.

This is one of my biggest hesitations in getting a dog. I know they'd be hell on the garden.

That totally sucks! While there are a few bad apples around here too (ones that let their dogs go crazy running around off leash) it's the cats that do the most damage in my garden. The digging and "kitty rocha" are bad enough but I am sick of cleaning up hair balls! Also I lost several beautiful blue fescue because they made the perfect place for the cat to sit and pee…
